#304/365--All Hallow's Eve

The last time I took my kids trick-or-treating...let's see...it must have been about 7 years ago.  This year, we have new friends--friends that are the perfect age for trick-or-treating--and so...we made plans to go with them.
But, "the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry..." and all that jazz...
((unfortunate events re: yesterday's post & Lauren's costume))...and... Lauren had two tests  (Biology and Literature), so, costume-less and weighed down with homework, she (Perry the Platypus) chose to stay home and study...

...while Mikey, who finished his homework, donned his "Party Rock Anthem Robot" mask and "shufflin'" clothes, and hit the streets with Destyn and Luke...

...and he found his heart's desire for Christmas...

#303/365--Sew, No

I'm almost too embarrassed to post this.
I attempted to sew Lauren's Halloween costume.  Twice.
It didn't work out for us.
I didn't even take pictures because I was so...sew...embarrassed. The first try, I sewed all the way around the dress and didn't leave holes for the head/arms.  It could have been a pillow, had I stuffed it and sewed it shut.

The second try, I tangled the thread up in the machine a few times...but when I finally had the dress completed...it was too small.

Please.  Don't tell me how to fix it.  I don't want to know. I prefer store-bought.  Martha Stewart, I am not.
At least I can make a pillow...

#299/365--Self-Rising

I became a grandmother today.
The birth announcement:

First car ride:

(this baby was a premie and so it still needed a little...development, if you will)

First outfits
(and the growth and development of his first few hours of life--yes, we decapitated a baby doll and hot glued it's head onto the flour sack.  It was a little disconcerting.)

Lauren gets to be a mom of this flour sack for a week.
This should be fun.

#298/365--BFF

This kid is like a brother to Mikey, a second son to me.
Friendships like this are precious.

#295/365--Gaming, etc.

I got up this day, Saturday, as if it were a school day.  Lauren had all-region choir try-outs and the bus was leaving at 6:45...
((morning sky with a few stars))

Then, a few hours later, it was on to Michael's double-header.
Game 1:
((batting))

((pitching))

Game 2:
((the coach let the boys be first base coach--this is Mikey's turn at coaching))

And then Game 3 (Soccer):
(he scored his first goal!!)

We had a great day...
((minus the Rangers' terrible, devastating, blood bath--
which I hope they are able to overcome tonight))

#294/365--Missing

Going in through the garage this afternoon
(so I could bring my trash cans in),
I stumbled upon this...
...it's my dad's softball glove.  My mom gave it to Mikey after my dad passed away.  I guess it's been here...just stood out to me today for whatever reason....particularly my dad's handwriting.  I just paused a moment and stared at it, thinking (in my perfect Kindergarten teacher's voice), "He used a capital letter at the beginning of his name and the rest of the letters are lowercase."  Always the teacher.  So was my dad.  I got a little teary-eyed thinking about the connection this gave me to my dad...that he actually wrote his name while he was still living...I miss him.  And it strikes me at such random moments.  I guess what strikes me (and warms my heart) is that this glove has been used recently (due to it's placement in the garage), which makes me realize my kids are trying to keep the connection with Papaw also.

#293/365--Wasted

Someone spilled their coffee on the ground at the gas station this morning.  I stepped out of my van and right into it.  Normally I like the smell of coffee, but not like this.  It was such a sad, mournful moment.  Then I remembered it wasn't mine...whew.

#292/365--Casualty

I bet you don't know many people who leave clean dishes in their dishwasher for a week.  I would also wager that you don't know many people who let their dirty dishes pile up for that very same week.  Enter me.  The very reason I want to kick my own butt--I know how disgusting that is.  In my defense, I'm usually, very consistently, constantly, always on the go.  This makes my down time...rare and precious.  Who wants to spend that time cleaning?  Not ME.  But today, I thought, "I can knock this out in 15 minutes tops....ready?  set...GO."

As I was shoving the last coffee mug into the cabinet...
((as you can see there really is no room in there; and yes, I keep my coffee in the cabinet; and yes, I know it "keeps" better in the freezer--but if you know how fast I go thru coffee then you realize it really doesn't matter where I keep my coffee...))

...this little guy...
...well, he didn't quite fit...
...and as I was trying to quickly shut the cabinet door, he came tumbling out and broke on my head.  Yes.  I said my head.  The mug hit me on the head and broke--chipped AND cracked.  Now when I tell you I'm hard-headed, you'll believe me.
